About the Author
The author came to America with her family from Taiwan at age fifteen for the quality education offered in California. Not to disappoint her parents and herself, she got a BA degree from UC Berkeley, a JD Law degree from USF, and passed the California Bar exam. She went even further from her parents' expectation for her to serve as an elected school board trustee, and as a board director of various nonprofit organizations. She raised her children with the same expectations. However, as she encountered serious parenting problems, she began to see how her priorities in life had been misplaced. Through the many trials in life, she has gradually learned to see the Lord as her all in all. Only through Christ Jesus, will she be able to find true love, joy, peace, purpose, focus, and contentment in life. Only as a loved person, will she be able to love her children and serve others authentically and unconditionally.

Quick read, valuable insights!

I've worked with teenagers and their families for over 25 years, and I'm recommending this quick read to EVERY parent I know. The author gets right to the issue- we are raising our children based on external expectations rather than their own developmental best interests- by bravely telling her own story. Her style is engaging, transparent and approachable; there is no arrogant piety here, but rather a posture of, "come learn from my mistakes."
If you are a parent who thinks (as she did) you've got it all figured out, I'd recommend dedicating an evening to this book and then taking a long look in the mirror. If you're a parent willing to admit you could use some help, here's an easy prescription. Easy to learn, more challenging to put into practice.
I plan to teach a five week parenting class on this book at my church this summer. It's enriching stuff.

Painfully Honest Self-reflection on Her Own Parenting

Not many parents admit to making any mistakes in their parenting. It’s too painful, too personal, and makes one feel too vulnerable. E. Way risks all of this in Coming Out Of Cage as she courageously explores how her parenting influenced her daughter’s Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She explores how her own upbringing led to both her academic success in earning a law degree and also how it impacted the way she raised her children.
While she turns to the Bible for guidance in traversing this difficult terrain, regardless of your religious beliefs you will gain much from her story.

I speak for myself only. I’m divorced. Most American parents want their children to be more successful than they were. I have a MSW & was working on 2 more MS programs.
I/my ex-wife have 3 children. Twin girls 1 in heaven (6 months old) the other LCMSW (School social worker); her husband/father MBA & their 2 daughters, & 1 son MBA, retired USAF), his G/F MS in health care.
I worked as a crisis SW in juvenile/adult corrections, drug/alcohol, school system & finally mental health. The religious aspect I never used unless the client brought it up into our sessions.
I enjoyed my fellow more female than male South Korean & Chinese students & listening to their points of view & their cultural differences.
A lot of good points & personal struggles we all go through.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written Chinese cultural educational counseling book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great cultural educational movie, cultural college counseling or SW PP presentation or mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.
