It might be relegated to the back porch or the trunk of the car. This devotional is designed to encourage and equip you to pray more effectively for God's kingdom to advance throughout the world. We will pray for prospective missionaries, missionary agencies, missionary families, and missionaries who come home from the field. We will also pray for issues impacting the missions movement today.
Thank you for joining me in prayer. Thank you for standing by me with the expectation that "the one who hopes in the Lord will never be put to shame" (1 Peter 2:6).

An Excellent Prayer Resource

This is one of those books I think every serious Christian should read! It's a well structured, thoughtfully written guide for praying for 30 different aspects of world missions - many of them aspects that people don't normally think of. Each day's section is fairly brief (most just a couple of pages long) but to the point, including an explanation of the issue to pray for, a Bible verse, and several specific suggestions for prayer. Many of them also include interesting examples or stories from the mission field that relate to the subject at hand.
If you've ever prayed for a missionary and felt unsure what to say besides, "Lord, protect them and bless their ministry," then this book is for you. As a missionary and missionary kid myself, I can attest that the prayer needs mentioned here are all legitimate and critical, and many of them are often neglected. I would love for everyone who supports a missionary or cares about missions to have access to this book. Highly recommended!

Excellent Prayer for Missions Guide

If you've ever had a heart for world missions-- and it's my personal opinion that all Christians should focus on world missions in accordance with the Great Commission (Go ye therefore into all the world ... Mark 16:14) -- then in this short book Alana Terry gifts you with excellent starting points. It gives you 30 different ways to pray for world missions and world missionaries and backs each day's prayer points with the "whys" for each as well as Scriptural support. When you've completed the 30 days, you can just start over again. And keep going. Her prayer points and the biblical backdrop for each are clearly and concisely presented. I'm delighted that I was given a free copy of this book for an honest review. I've been using it to guide my own prayers from the day I received it. Highly recommended. Get the book; you'll be glad you did. While you're at it, check out her fiction as well. Her books will touch your heart and your spirit.

A practical and flexible guide for purposeful prayer for missionaries around the world

Suppose someone came up to you and asked, "Do you pray for world missions?" Would that question make you feel uncomfortable? Would you squirm because praying for world missions sounds like something everyone should do? It is a tremendous goal, but how would you implement it? Where would you begin? What would you pray for? This prayer guide answers these questions and more.
The author, Alana Terry, provides caring Christians with a guide that covers 30 days or a month's worth of important needs we ought to bring to the feet of Jesus on behalf of missionaries all around the world. Each day there is a short devotional or commentary about the need being prayed for. Some examples of what we should to be praying about are: encouraging the called, second-career missionaries, the sending churches, physical protection, the missionary's marriage, cultural barriers, relief work, and so much more. There is even a day dedicated for those who can't go out as a missionary.
This short book is written from the perspective of a person who has served overseas as a missionary. Her experience is evident on every page. Her genuine voice demonstrates to her readers just how important prayer is to a missionary's ministry.
Here's how I would use this guide. Most churches have a group of missionaries they support with their financial gifts, physical gifts, emotional and spiritual encouragement and prayers. It's a good place to begin. I would adopt a missionary for a month and pray through the guide for this family or person every day. The author provides at least three prayer points we can use to keep our prayers on topic. The following month, I would adopt another missionary and their family and so on. Another idea would be to adopt a country for a month, and pray for a group of missionaries or persecuted Christians each day. In still another cycle, we could adopt a people group, a missionary organization, or relief workers in a particular country in distress. One month, we could broaden the scope, and another month, narrow it down to a particular person or family. Keep in mind extended family such as parents of missionaries and adult children of missionaries. This guide is flexible and adaptable.
The guide's prayer points could be transferred to a church calendar, a private calendar, printed onto index cards, put into a flip book, and onto posters. You can challenge other sisters and brothers in Christ to pray every day using the guide. Christian schools could adopt a missionary or support organization each month. This could be used by Sunday School classes, Bible study groups, sports groups supported by the church, and so on to keep our missionaries in the forefront of our minds.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to step up their prayer life and pray with more purpose. Where our minds go, there our hearts will be also.
