Enjoyable lessons!

These were sermons given to teenaged girls during World War II in England. The sermons were pitched at the girls' level, yet are intelligent and informative as well as humorous. Sadly, I think they'd be far above the heads of most teenagers nowadays. Regardless, my knowledge of the Creed was enhanced through these sermons. I wish Father Knox was my priest.

But I am so glad I read this

To be honest, this is not the type of genre that I am normally into. But I am so glad I read this! All of the characters were very well developed - I feel like I know them now. The relationship between Ava and Chogan develops sweetly and slowly throughout the years. I adore their fire and ice relationship and how it works well between the two main characters. I would definitely buy from this author again!

This book was great! With so many historical fiction novels I feel ...

This book was great! With so many historical fiction novels I feel like I can't relate to the characters, but that wasn't the case with this book. The people felt as real as anyone you would meet walking down the street today. The book grabbed my interest from the beginning and it didn't stop until the very end. I'm usually a skimmer reader, but I didn't do that this time. I didn't want to miss a word. I can't wait until the next book in the series.

Why I Don't Understand the 4 1/2 Star Rating on This Book.

I'm really surprised how many stars this book has. I really wanted to like it. I love historical fiction, but this was obviously written by someone unfamiliar with the time about which she was writing. I tried to get through the whole thing. But by the time I got to 93% I couldn't make myself read through the rest. These are the problems that made it impossible for me to finish:
1. The characters were not realistic. They constantly made ridiculously stupid and selfish choices and they always believed whatever would make them as unhappy, hurt and angry as possible. 2) The dialog sounds like it came from 20th/21st century teenagers. (Chogan's satchel was "ripped off.") Is this supposed to be 19th century dialog? 3) Chogan supposedly learned to speak perfect English just from playing a few hours a week with Ava and getting NO other practice? (As a bilingual education specialist I find this totally unrealistic.)

The characters seemed to react to every situation with rage or despondency. The foolishness just went on and on until I couldn't take it anymore and simply didn't care enough about any the characters to be able to force myself through the remaining 7% to see how the story resolved itself.

I feel bad giving such a terrible review to a story that I'm sure the author worked on very hard to write. Obviously, many of the reviewers do not agree with me or it wouldn't ave 41/2 stars, but at least to me, the time I spent reading it was completely wasted.

The new standard for Bible prophecy study, research and interpretation

One of the finest Bible prophecy books I have ever read, Dr. Michael Lake has produced an instant classic of the new paradigm of prophetic interpretation. This is a book about the anti-Christ system of Mystery Babylon and the under-acknowledged influence of Nimrod and ancient Babylon on the stream of history. Dr. Lake cites classical sources, Hebraic word studies and some of the other new prophetic writers to bring the reader a comprehensive understanding of how, from the beginning of time, Satan conspired with fallen man to counterfeit God's promise of a redeemer and of a place of promise with Him. Satan's masterpiece was Nimrod, the original tyrant, who carried within him the secret occult power that dominated the pre-flood world (Atlantis) and infected mankind with the Nephilim curse. The result was the New Atlantis -- the ultimate totalitarian political-financial-religious system in defiance of God. Originally established at Babylon, the satanic conspiracy rolled down though history, infecting all of the societies, governments and people it came into contact with -- even corrupting God's people, Israel, and infiltrating the church. Dr. Lake covers this vast material in an easy to follow style that will guide the reader through the layers of the conspiracy from Genesis to Revelation. This volume MUST be considered required reading for the true Church of the LORD Jesus Christ! Why? Because it reveals a historical and futuristic paradigm of darkness that has influenced this world since even before the Great Flood in Noah's day. We are clearly in the Last Days, and yet there are many unfulfilled Prophecies in the Holy Bible that are unfolding at an accelerated pace. It is nice to see a scholar having the temerity to discuss ...

Dr. Michael Lake’s latest installment is a daring proclamation as to the proliferation of subversive evil in the world today and its beginnings. Not only does he cover numerous esoteric societies prevalent in culture, choosing to undermine Almighty God’s plan for humanity but provides a plethora of documental evidence as to their genesis, the paragon of which is Mystery Babylon. His exhaustive research surrounding the progenitor of the mystery religions (Nimrod) is worth the price of the book alone and the numerous references at the end of the book are tantamount to the level of extensive research undertaken for what could be his ‘magnum opus’. Hopefully there is plenty more where this came from in future volumes! It is nice to see a scholar having the temerity to discuss topics not often covered in academia or Christian circles, largely because many authors choose not to ‘go there’ for fear of backlash or ridicule. The nefarious schemes of the enemy at the highest levels of leadership in government and private organizations need to be exposed and this body of work serves as an arrow fired deep into the heart of the occult.

I have read many books on the Fivefold apostolic. This one is my favorite. It is clear. Easy to read. And full of good identifiers and information in general about the ministry of those called as apostles.

The best apostolic roadmap to those called to this office

This book was exactly what I needed. When I flip the pages, it was as if this person knew my whole life and I only regret I didn't find this resource sooner. An apostolic training is not a piece of cake and those call ed to this office need a road map from someone who know what she is talking about. This is a really anointed book. This book change the course of. Y training and brought me out of confusion and discouragement. The information in here will help you shorten your training time. Unlike other apostolic book out there, this one gives clear step by step direction and road, give you signs of apostolic call, what a real apostle is and what the function looks like, what the calling will require from you, what the process look like, and things you will face, what God expects from you and clear up any confusion you may have about this calling. This is THE BEST apostolic book I have ever come across. This book is just the beginning. This author has more indepth books on this subject and the different kinds of apostle but this is a good start for those who seek to understand this office calling.

I've read and loved so many of Stormie Omartian's books. The Power of a Praying Woman is one of my all-time favorite books that has helped my spiritual relationship with God. So when I saw The Praying Woman's Devotional for review, I knew I had to jump on it. The problem is that I tend to read these kinds of books very slowly, so I'm really late getting this book read and reviewed. My bad.

I'm not sure that I have too terribly much to say about The Praying Woman's Devotional. I enjoyed it. It's packed full of short daily messages and prayers that fit a myriad of situations we women face in our lives. I didn't connect as deeply on an emotional level with this devotional as I did with The Power of a Praying Woman, but I believe that to be due to the short nature of each topic and prayer. The Power of a Praying Woman goes further into each subject than The Praying Woman's Devotional. However, The Praying Woman's Devotional is perfect for the woman who wants to quickly focus her day on a specific topic.

Like the other Stormie Omartian books I've read, there is much that I could quote here. My favorite quotes:
-Only God can cause love to grow in your heart where there is none. Only God can bring to life love that has died.

-One of the most important things about being in a spiritual family is finding power in prayer through unity. When believers are in unity, there is a dynamic that adds power to our prayers and the confidence that God will answer in power.

-When we pray, we reassert our faith that God keeps His promises. What we said out loud, or silently in our hearts, proclaims the truth of God's promises that we have read or heard in His Word.

-If we don't take control of our minds, the devil will.

-Help me to never be full of myself, but rather to always be freshly filled with more of You each day.

-As the people's holiness went, so went the state of the nation.

-We need to praise Jesus that He is our healer whether we are healed at that moment or not.

-I have found that no matter how bad I feel, when I praise God I always feel better.

-How often do we plead for God's direction and, not liking what we hear, decide to go our own way?

As always, I don't agree with 100% of what is stated within this book when it comes to what is required for salvation.Go to the Bible for more information about that. But regardless, this book holds a lot of great material for daily focusing of our thoughts. While I guess I prefer books that dive a little deeper on each topic, The Praying Woman's Devotional is a great choice for short, focused topics.The Praying Woman's Devotional gets 4 Stars from me. This was such an amazing powerful and beautiful love story. Actually to tell the truth it was 3 beautiful love stories all wrapped into one moral of the story which is love can be hard and forgiveness is a must. I love the way Natalie left a journal for Lisa, gosh to have something like that to read over and over again just to know how proud my parents were of me, how I came about, everything about my life with my parents. it would be worth more than anything in this world. What a wonderful idea! The lessons and love put into the journal are breathtaking. I cannot speak more highly of Mrs Fostino's writing style and this book, completely amazing! :)

A must read.

I was honored to receive this book at a release party, by Ms. Fostino, and am now an avid fan of hers. The following review is my honest opinion of this book, and dose not reflect not reflect on the fact that it was a gift.
Sometimes Love hurts, is a well written, classy, and fast paced book, I have had the pleasure of reading in a long time, it's more than a typical love story, but written with class, it reminds me a lot of the days when a love scene in an old black and white movie suggests what is about to happen, but fades to black, and goes to the next event.
It begins with the main characters, Crystal and Blake married for a year, and finds Crystal close to giving birth their first baby very soon. Blake has been working long hours at work for a quite a time, he is a restaurant manager, for a boss, Katherine that wants more from him than he is willing to give, but recently is demanding more of his time at work.His long hours at work, plus the fact that Crystal has met Katherine, combined with the fact that she finds lipstick on his collar while doing laundry, all adds in her mind to her husband having an affair, or is he?
Though there is a dangerous rain storm occurring on this night she cannot bear to stay in the home she shares with her husband. She leaves their home to go to the one place she knows she can find unconditional love and understanding, her parents house. It's there that the rain takes on it's own type of metaphor, as she learns about her family's journey through some hard times.
Ms. Fostino has found a way to write a book that is more than a love story between married couples, but instead spans the love of family, trust, and the imperfections in all of us, no matter what role you play in life. Understanding, and communication is the key to life, never walk away without sitting down, and working things out before it's too late.

Splendor amidst the sorrows.

I bought this book after coming across the author at a FB event. I was intrigued by the book name and the blurb.

This is a sweet story about the problems a young couple can come up against when communication fails and trust is damaged.

We meet our young couple, Crystal and Blake, during the beginning of their romance and through to their marriage. However, even thou both make sacrifices to spend time together, pregnancy changes quite a few things. And the restaurant Blake works for changes owners and life is upended. Take into account the Blake's new boss has the hots for him and trouble ensues. But there is a cool twist that sets Crystal mind into a whirlwind.

I enjoyed this story even with it's Christian overtones. There are many good messages and the title fits perfectly: Sometimes Love Hurts.

I whole heartily recommend this book!

The International Pastor Experience by David Packer (who edited the book) is a practical collection of perspectives that show the potential and reveal some of the challenges of leading a multicultural or military church overseas. The book contains articles from different pastors from international English-speaking churches, primarily from the International Baptist Convention.

I enjoyed reviewing this book. I have had an interest in international mission work since college. I went on mission trips to Mexico, Germany, and France. I met my wife on a mission trip to Germany. I lived with her in Germany for five years, four of them as the pastor and wife team at the International Baptist Church in Bremen, Germany. I serve on the Board of Directors of the International Baptist Church Ministries, where we help churches in the International Baptist Convention.

From personal experience I can say that this book is a must-read for people who are interested in leading English-speaking churches in international cities. This niche missionary work may not be for everyone. However, I do believe pastoring an international church has the most potential to reach the maximum amount of people who can reach others for Jesus Christ. The basis for this is Acts 2:5. This unique ministry is not for everyone. But for those who are interested, this book will shed light on how to pastor an international church.

Many of the articles were written by Americans. Still, other authors from various countries contributed to this work. Two articles were written by non-Americans. The book contains a Works Cited section with resources for the international pastor. There is also a section entitled "Responses to International Church Pastors to Ten Survey Questions." Various pastors of English-speaking international churches answered a set of questions. These questions and their answers give insight into the joys and struggles of pastoring an international church.

For people who are interested in the work of English-speaking international churches, they can contact the International Baptist Convention. For people who want to support the work of this unique convention, they can contact the International Baptist Church Ministries. For others who sense a desire to plan an international English-speaking church outside of the United States, they can contact Catalyst, the church planting arm of the International Baptist Convention.

A Review of The Parable of the Prodigal Son Pamphlet

Rose publishing has condensed the story of the Prodigal Son and put it into a convenient pamphlet form. The pamphlet promises to “provide a fresh viewpoint that can help us see those prodigal children from God’s perspective, bringing God’s grace to calm our fears, overcome our anxieties, and soften our hearts for all those prodigals that cross our paths.”

“I was lost and now I am found”
The Parable of the Prodigal Son is well-known among Christians. For those who aren’t familiar with it, The hymn ” Amazing Grace” echoes the theme of the story found in Luke 15:11-31. In the 15th Chapter of the Gospel of Luke, we find three parables about a lost sheep, a lost coin and a lost son. That which was lost was relentlessly pursued. When each was found there was great rejoicing. This of course is how God pursues each lost person–he wants us to get found and return to Him.

Do You Know A Prodigal Son?

At one time or another in life, most of us have known someone who is “lost.” This lost person could be someone raised in the Christian Faith and, like the story of the Prodigal, turns his or her back and falls into sin. Maybe you have a relationship that’s gone sour– that person you cherished as a friend or spouse, sought what looked like greener pastures. Maybe it is a child who has rebelled? Or, maybe you’re the person who is lost! Being “lost,” as we see in the story of the Prodigal, was painful and humiliating.

If you or someone you know is dealing with the hurtful rejection and rebellion of a wayward person, I think you’ll appreciate and be encouraged by this brief pamphlet.

First, you will get a brief overview of the parables in Luke Chapter 15 that point the way to why Jesus came to earth—to find what was lost. Next, you’ll get three profiles of the types of people who are lost. What’s important here are the descriptions of the behavior and attitudes which you can apply as a framework for determining “where people are” with respect to their rebellion. In other words, in the Prodigal Pamphlet, there’s a description of youngest son and The Father—this description could be applied to a spouse or a friend. What do I mean? Do you know an adult who acts like a child?

Next, you’ll get hints on what to do and not do. One major behavior to avoid is expressing anger. Importantly, the pamphlet reminds us about God’s grace and Jesus invitation to us to extend that same grace of He’s extended to each believer to those who have strayed.

Understanding the Father's Heart

Come high or low, rise or fall, our Heavenly Father loves us. We may well misunderstand the love of the Father, however, and the family member that demonstrates this misunderstanding most overtly may not be the one who misunderstands it most profoundly.

In the Holy Bible, we find an example, given by our Lord, of a two family members that did not appear to understand a particular father’s love.

The pamphlet, “The Parable of the Prodigal Son: Jesus’ Story of the Lost Son,” by Rose Publishing, looks at the various aspects of this story told by Jesus in the New Testament, reminding us of the unconditional love of the father; the unappreciative response, initially, of his younger son, followed by his eventual sincere repentance; and the complete misunderstanding, on the part of a legalistic and self-righteous older brother, of what a father’s heart is all about.

In our own times, this booklet encourages the parents of prodigal children to trust the Lord to work in their children’s lives, and to do His own unique work in His own unique time in the lives of them all. It also encourages all of us to recognize that His love is vast, unmerited and free, and reaches out to all His children, including those who, for a time, go astray.

Personally, I find this a helpful booklet. I am glad that the writer gives the Jewish context in which Jesus speaks, and, as well, notes the other parables adjacent to this one in the Biblical text that emphasize a similar message. I am happy, likewise, that the Holy Bible is allowed to speak for itself, in that small, but entire passages are cited. In dire situations, we often ask “What can I do?” or, “What should I not do?” Two very practical sections of the pamphlet are “Invitation to Trust,” and “Avoid Giving In To Anger.” The booklet also includes helpful psalms, and various prayers, including a prayer for prodigals. Some comparisons are, helpfully, charted.
The booklet demonstrates a very sympathetic grasp of the dilemma of parents who have a wandering loved one, and who do not know how to deal with the angst as they await his or her return.
This story may not appear connected to the booklet, above, but, I happen to know a family in which the youngest brother took a brief foray into the world of unbelief. It was, by no means, as flagrant a journey as that of the Biblical prodigal son; the young man was, nonetheless, for a time, out-of-fellowship with Christian norms. What I observed on the part of his older siblings in his absence, was a manifest yearning for his return, and great joy when it finally happened. They had not feared that his return would diminish any of their own familial joys, because their parents loved them all as much as they loved the absent younger brother; and they realized that that same love was strong enough to weather some vicissitudes, including the possibility that the son might have to learn, perhaps, through hard experience.
The mother, in one statement, later, wrote, “Thank you to all my beautiful kids who are always a blessing, never a disappointment and my greatest joy. I am so proud of all of you.”
Surely, that is the heart of a true parent, whose initial response to the newborn infant was not based on merit, but on love, and, if that is so in the earthly realm, how much more in the Heavenly.
And the end of the story can be truly surprising – only today, I read the obituary of a missionary who had spent a lifetime serving the Lord in a foreign field, an answer to his godly mother’s prayers: in his teens, though, her faith must have been sorely tested, as, prior to his conversion, he stood before the juvenile courts….
The topic is both timely, and needed, and will undoubtedly find appreciation from many readers. Rose Publishing has provided me with an advanced reader copy.

Let me first state that I received this pamphlet from Rose Publishing as a pre-published edition for free in exchange for this review.
I have studied the Prodigal Son Parable for many years pondering its meaning then and now. I have even taught lessons on this Parable. This pamphlet starts out with the parable and a brief cultural explanation. It goes way beyond what is taught regarding its meaning. It shows there are actually three prodigals involved. We can easily identify the younger son who takes his inheritance and blows it, and the older son who seems steadfast filled with resentment and bitterness. How many of us ever consider the father as a prodigal?
There are many thought provoking questions highlighted in the text. They are not frivolous questions. We need to ponder them and find our own answers to them. I believe we could all have similar answer, but also, many that are unique to ourselves.
This pamphlet is sure to be an asset for anyone seeking a deeper understanding and awareness of this great parable. Rose Publishing has really hit the mark with this publication. It is colorful, well organized, and extremely well written.
