A Short Primer on St. Augustine That's Well Worth Reading

Just finished Dr. Taylor Marshall's new e-book "St Augustine in 50 Pages." It was a nice overview of the saint's life and work. As someone who's read Augustine's "Confessions" several times and the entire "City of God," I still learned quite a bit from Dr Marshall's short treatment. If you're completely unfamiliar with Augustine's work or if your a seasoned Augustine devotee, this book is worth checking out.

A lot of info in 50 pages! Wow.

This is the second volume by Taylor R. Marshall that I have read. I have also since attended two of his live webinars. I can highly recommend this book. Taylor really knows how to pack a lot of information into 50 pages. This book follows his immensely popular Thomas Aquinas in 50 Pages: The Layman's Quick Guide to Thomism. Even though almost 900 years separated the two authors these in 50 pages books links them, their works and give good reasons for us to be studying them and going deeper. Marshall writes in a very engaging and easy to read style. To be honest I hit the end of the book and was surprised even knowing it was a short volume when I began. He presents the material in such a way that it does not seem like many academic writers, and as such is quickly becoming a favourite writer of mine.

The Writings of Augustine

Taylor states of Augustine that: "Augustine was great at writing and disputation. He kept the quill in his hand. His books and sermons reveal a man gifted for infusing heartfelt passion into theology so as to make it practical." And to be honest that is what Taylor himself is doing. This book can be a reminder for those of us who finished formal studies years ago, for the younger reader as a primer for a high school or first year university course. Or for anyone who wants to dip their toes in the pool of knowledge but be warned once you get the toes wet especially with an author like Taylor you will likely dive in.

This was a wonderful little read. And I do plan on going on and very soon reading more from Taylor R. Marshall. I can recommend this book and believe that it will spark a hunger and thirst for more knowledge. Give it a go you have nothing to lose and maybe a whole lot to gain. Well done Mr. Marshall well done.

Wikipedia is a better bet!

This pamphlet, besides not being quite 50 pages, is poorly edited with many omitted prepositions and being verbs. Furthermore, the author has repeated a whole paragraph twice on pages 31-32. Not much new material here that Wikipedia couldn't provide. Certainly not worth $15.

I always admire a writer that can do a good job at keeping all the characters easy to follow. I have read all of Jenn's books in order and many of the other characters are intertwined within other books. Jenn does a great job at keeping it all sorted and giving the reader just enough of a memory jog to remember how they fit in. I think its what keeps me coming back for more.....seeing who's lives are going to change or who is being introduced into new story lines. Jenn's books are always enjoyable reads for me and I highly recommend them!

I liked this story and the continuation of the Hayes family. Gracie has spunk. I can relate to her being scared of moving away from home and everyone you know. That happened to me when I got married but I only moved 2 hours away not to another continent. I really like this author and the way she writes.

This is by far the best planner for UMC Directirs of Music! I have used this planner for 25 years and it is outstanding! The weekly scriptures help to coordinate your music with the lectionary - and there are even suggestions for music titles. These also help jog your memory for appropriate selections you might already have in your files as well as give you a link to Octavio's you have been perusing in new catalogues! This planner makes MY planning so much faster and easier! I highly recommend it!

Love how this resource has all the information I want ...

First text I use in worship planning. Love how this resource has all the information I want in one easy to use place: the texts themselves, liturgical day, special UM days, hymn suggestions from multiple resources, BOW suggestions, even worship arts suggestions.

A few options I wish were available:
1) other bible translations (I like CEB, but that's not what my churches use in worship). It'd be nice if there were different editions to choose.
2) I wish there was an incorporated way to mark your place from week to week like perforated corners that you rip off each week or some sort of bookmark that clips to the spiral.
3) I don't like where in the year the book changes (August). It doesn't align with the liturgical year, the calendar year, or even the school year. It's just awkward. And if you save them from year to year to keep notes, it's obnoxious to try to remember which book to pick up when you want to reference something.

While reading the book you can almost find yourself standing there watching and living the pain through this authors eyes. No child should ever have to endure such pain and suffering at such a young age and have their childhood robbed from them. I believe that writing is sometimes a self healing process and once the emotions are released, although not always understood one can move on and learn to live a happy life. This book is very powerful and will have you wanting to just reach out and protect this child and take away her pain. I applaud this author for sharing the story and wish her the best of luck. This story is a reminder to all of how precious our children our.

Richard T. Case, age 65, has over 45 years of executive line management experience, both as a senior executive with Fortune 500 companies and as a management consultant to numerous industries and companies. He has also been a featured speaker at numerous conferences and seminars. Mr. Case has received The Wall Street Journal Achievement Award, and is listed in Who’s Who in American Business. Mr. Case holds an MBA degree from the University of Southern California and he also graduated with a seminary Masters degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, summa cum laude.

He and his wife, Linda, have started several new churches that remain strong today, and have served as interim pastors of troubled churches, bringing reconciliation and new vision to these situations. Currently,he and Linda are leading a fruitful, Christian marriage retreat ministry,“All for Jesus Living Waters Retreat Ministry”. In addition to the retreats they personally lead, they now have over 16 couples trained as leaders who are conducting marriage retreats in their respective geographies around the country.

Not for the faint of heart. The author does an impressive job of providing details and scenarios for what is coming in the very near future. Clearly his message is BE PREPARED!!. The obvious first step is having a personal relationship with Jesus followed by learning to ABIDE in the promises and protection of Christ. Carefully researched and theologically sound book that is essential for true Christ followers to THRIVE in the years ahead despite coming difficult years.

For bible students.....a goldmine!

Do not read this book expecting to find out the future as many do when picking up books relating to "bible codes". This book is mainly to do with gematria, rather than els codes. What it shows is how Gods creation itself, and his purpose that has been revealed over the last 6000 years to mankind, are reinforced by number patterns "hidden" within creation itself and the bible. Hebrew and Greek were dual number languages in that all letters had numerical values as well as letter meanings. Thus the biblical text, be it words, passages, verses etc can all be reduced to numerical values. Comparison of these values reinforce evidence of creation as well as bringing together Gods plan of redemption in Christ. For example, the nummber of the term Lord Jesus Christ is 3168, and this number was built into the cosmos, the dimensions of the cities of refuge, Solomons temple, ezekiels temple, the new Jerusalem etc. For bible student who study types and shadows of Christ in the old testament this book is a goldmine! Do not be put off by those too ignorant to understand the book. It is very easy reading, thought provoking,and probably the finest book I have read in the past 25 years.

The correlations between gematria and equadistant-letter sequencing are so breathtaking that I had to put the book down to catch my breath in absolute awe of such overwhelmingly powerful discoveries. This is a must read for any thinker.
