This is a clear, comprehensive approach to personal growth as a follower of Jesus Christ. Max has a wonderful way of giving a balanced overview of Christian living, avoiding the temptation to specialize in one dimension and neglect another. This book is a introduction to a fresh approach to disciple-making that will help you prepare for the unprecedented pressures of the twenty-first century.

Max Anders does a wonderful job of laying the foundation of christian growth. His 7 Marks of a believer gives a balanced understanding of what it means to grow in Christ and give purpose and meaning to your life. The book gives practical principals in living the life of a believer and how modern culture affects ones growth. He points out the challenges to discipleship today and gives a strategy to address them. Each chapter is filled with examples of the issues and steps to meet them. A short review and memory enhancer closes each chapter. I found the book to be very applicable for personal discipleship. I also have the system which I intend using in my mens ministry.

It is exactly like what we use in Sunday School with 2 exceptions ...

It is exactly like what we use in Sunday School with 2 exceptions - 1. it is location based, not page number based. If it was page number based I could use it in class. When someone refers to something that is written, they say 'on page X' not 'at location XXXX'. 2. There is no way to take notes or highlight passages.

I like that since it is on my Kindle, I can read it anywhere I go because it is always in my purse.

A compulsively readable book.

National Bestselling Author, Rhonda McKnight has done it again with her latest, Live A Little a wrenching, mellow romance. This moving novel has all the elements a story of this calibrate must have in order to keep readers engaged.

Follow Raine Still through the depths of despair and incredible swells of joy as she attempts to balance the bliss of a possible new love interest, with the pain of her parents' deaths, and her will to live. There are a number of layers within this story and some readers will find themselves knee deep in moral perplexity as the story unfolds; Is Raine contemplating to be or not to be? Why is Gage reluctant to kiss Raine? Has he been less than honest about his life, is he involved with someone else? Does he pitch for the other team? Why is Raine so eager to be kissed? Yet thinks she is not worthy of being kissed? Does her past make her a lesser woman, or simply naive?

Love, loss, and guilt—are the narrative strands that run throughout this gracefully woven tale of inspirational romance. However, the emotional ties that should bind them seem to be the very ones that are unraveling. So, are the two main characters too damaged to intermingle? It is possible, as most people are damaged in some way, especially a number of wartime Veterans. Nevertheless, is Gage Jordan damaged because of the war or is he damaged due to some deep-seeded guilt he harbors for something he may or may not be responsible for? Moreover, is Raine Still, damaged because of her upbringing or does her low self-esteem stem from loneliness and fear because of her parent's death? There is Hope for the Hopeless!

As always, Rhonda McKnight, inspires her readers with a story of hope for the hopeless.

For Raine Still…when it rains, it pours. Sadly, she is ready to give up on life as a spirit of depression and loneliness over takes her. In her mind, everything worth living for is now gone with the death of her parents. And even constant phone calls from her best friend, who has moved away, won’t change her made up mind.

Although, Gage Jordan, appears to be well put together on the outside, as a fourteen year Army Veteran and war hero, he continues to struggle with the emotional and constant memory recall from the devastation of losing his best friend.

Raines’ dark cloud, prevents her from being in a place where she can trust God, and in a way, blames Him for taking her parents away. But, God has a plan in place for her and Gage plays the starring role as through his faith, helps her to see the light of The Son again.

Together, along with the sovereign love and grace of God, they are able to not only restore each other’s hope, mend their broken hearts, and heal the wounds of loss, but give of themselves to build a safe haven and offer hope, faith and prosperity to others in need.

Although fictional, with this story, Rhonda, uses many platforms to address real, in-time issues, such as depression, loneliness, homelessness and the lack of care, compassion and compensation for troops who return home after going to battle and risking their lives for their country.

As with all of Rhonda’s creations, her unique gift of making it easy to lose yourself in the characters, will have you laughing out loud as well as shading some tears.

I would highly recommend this book to everyone and especially to those who are dealing with despair. Enjoy as it encourages you to, Live A Little.

We all need, and want, to 'Live A Little'...

Raine is in a very dark place mentally and spiritually. She is in a place of loneliness that she does not know how to get out of. That is a very dangerous place to be. But God said no man is an island and although Raine feels dark and alone the light from her inner beauty shines thru bright and clear enough for Gage to see it and connect!

Gage thinks he has come home from the war and has put away his hero's uniform. He lost a little piece of him self in each of his deployments and he is not sure he can ever fill those empty spaces, until he feels the light he sees in Raine seep deep inside and begin to fill up all of those empty places.

Now he is about to put on another type of uniform, his knight in shining armor. That uniform is shining so brightly even Raine can find her way into the light again.

Live a Little, isn't that what we all desire? Raine and Gage, two halves that are made for each other. Even their names fit Raine/Gage, one is used to measure the other, how very special is that?

Rhonda McKnight has once again taken us to a place that is all to familiar to some of us. A place of loneliness and despair. But she has shown us, once again, that God, in His infinite Grace and Mercy, does not leave us in those dark places without giving us a light to guide our way out.

Way to go Rhonda! I can't hardly wait for Cree to arrive!

A Solid, Biblical, Devotional Discussion about Jesus

If you're looking for a solid, biblical, and historic Christian book that is a basic study of who Jesus is, you'll have to get this one: Thinking Rightly of Christ by Bryan Holstrom. It is a book that simply summarizes the Bible's teaching about Jesus of Nazareth, the Messiah, the Son of God.

Holstrom starts out with a short lament:

"...If we're honest about it, we would have to admit that far too much of the world's thinking has infiltrated the confines of the visible church in our age. The Christ who is proclaimed from many a pulpit, and taught in a great many seminaries today, often bears little resemblance to him who is set forth in Scripture as the King of kings and Lord of lords."

He goes on to note that even many of us who are mature Christians don't have a robust and full biblical understanding of who Christ is. So he wrote this book to help us know the Lord Jesus better.

"The purpose of this book is to correct such deficient thinking about Christ, particularly among Christians, and to replace our false conceptions of his person and work with one befitting the Creator of the heavens and the earth, who upholds all things by the word of his power (Heb. 1:2-3). To that end, each of the twenty chapters seeks to expound upon a truth statement drawn directly from Scripture that touches upon the subject at hand. Those familiar with the Bible will appreciate that there are literally hundreds of truth statements about the person and work of Christ, any one of which could have been the subject of a separate chapter here" (p. 15).

Holstrom chose to stick with twenty statements that people misunderstand, are clear but underappreciated, and/or those that have been attacked or ignored (p. 15). So this book doesn't summarize every single statement the Bible makes about Christ, but it gives the reader twenty important truths about the Son of God that will help strengthen their faith in him.

I won't list all the chapters here since you can see a preview (click the cover above here on Amazon). I do want to say, however, that this book would be great for a small group or individual study. Each chapter is between 10 and 15 pages which might be the topic for one discussion/study. This book is probably not for new Christians (it might be too detailed for them), but it is a good one for Christians who want to sit down and study - in detail - exactly who the Bible says Jesus is. Each chapter even begins with a Scripture reference that might be memorized to the reader further grow in knowledge of the Messiah. Come to think of it, this might be good "devotional" reading for those of you who want to sit and read 10-15 pages per day.

It would be helpful if there were study questions for each chapter and a Scripture index at the back of the book, but the content is solid and I very much recommend it. In fact, I might use this book as teaching material in the future - it is a great 20-week (20-chapter) study course on the person and work of Jesus from a historical, Christian, Reformed, and biblical perspective. If you want a biblical answer for the biblical question, "Who do you say that I am?" you'll want get this book!

A lot of right things about Christ

This book was given to me by a blogger who attended his congregation. She offered three of his books to a couple of people in exchange for an unbiased review. (I only chose this one.) He is not well known, but he’s someone who is worthy to be read.

According to the book:
"The purpose of this book is to correct such deficient thinking about Christ, particularly among Christians, and to replace our false conceptions of his person and work with one befitting the Creator of the heaves and the earth, who upholds all things by the word of his power (Heb. 1:2-3). To that end, each of the twenty chapters seeks to expound upon a truth statement drawn directly from Scripture that touches upon the subject at hand."

I learned a lot in just in the first part of the book. The things written about are things that matter. I added subjects to Evernote like Why did John refer to Jesus as ‘The Word’?, the importance of the Trinity, Modalism, his interesting commentary on Footprints in the Sand, The Angel of the Lord, and an explanation of that old word begotten, just to name a few.

He doesn’t write cute or personal stories, but he’s not dry either. His writing is organized well, always Scriptural, and seems to use the right amount of words. As the book goes on, he seems to get a little unnecessarily polemic in my view. But other than that minor point, I got a lot out of this book, which is on one of my favorite subjects. I would highly recommend it for someone who is a Christian and familiar with Scripture, but not necessarily looking for an extremely scholarly tome on the subject of Christology. Any serious layperson is bound to learn from and enjoy it.

Another excellent Josh Peck book!

Cherubim Chariots written by Josh Peck at Ministudy Ministry is well worth the purchase and time to read. Josh has the knack of explaining what might come across as difficult subjects to tackle and makes them very easy to grasp as well as making it possible to have a working knowledge of for use and discussion. Not only does he have this knack, he also does it in a way that is not too overwhelming and in a short book format that is easy to read quickly leaving you anticipating his next book. In this book he explains the difference between inter-dimensional over extra-dimensional in ufology and how and why it differs from extraterrestrial. He also talks about how certain technology of mankind may have been received from fallen angels, is in use today and, expanding for future use based on old agendas of these beings. He helps to put the truth behind the fallacy of ancient astronaut theory by showing how the vehicles used may actually come from the extra-dimensional places rather than extraterrestrial and that those pilots of some of vehicles are actually the fallen angels and not what the classic ufologists may explain away. He also aptly explains the perspective of prophets of the Bible, such as Ezekiel, peering at the Cherubim from our dimension and explains the very possible reason of just why and how they are described the way they are. It's fascinating! But that is only the tip of the iceberg of information he offers in this book. He has come across an extremely interesting find on Mount Herman, the place where Satan and the fallen angels who sided with him descended to intermingle with mankind and create giants and other altered beings that walked the Earth before God had to cleanse the Earth of the abominations via the flood and makes a possible tie into Roswell and Nazca. This find could speculatively explain why Hitler used the hand symbol he used and, in my opinion, why we may be seeing the reemergence of the same socialist type government spreading globally for these end times. He has interviews with very noted people such as Cris Putnman, Sharon Gilbert, Doug Woodward and, the Afterward by Perelandra Kilns who maintains Watcher Vault website (home of the previous works of David E. Flynn as well as other invaluable postings). Not only that but, his foreword is by Mark A. Flynn author of another phenomenal book worth reading, Forbidden Secrets of The Labyrinth. Mark is the twin brother to the late David E. Flynn who had done some extraordinary investigative work on his own that Josh references throughout Cherubim Chariots so, if you are a fan of the late David Flynn this book will not disappoint! After reading the book and hearing a couple of Josh's interviews it only makes me wish that David could have been here today just to be privy to the conversations these two would have had and the body of work they may have been able to do together. Please, do yourself a solid and buy this book as well as Josh Peck's other books Disclosure (the updated version) and Quantum Creation. You will walk away with knowledge you thought may have been beyond your grasp and be amazed at how easy he makes it for all to understand!

Must read!

Loved it, easy to read and understand! I've read books about extradimensional beings often being called aliens but never associated with being angelic entities. In this book Peck explores the hypothesis of angels/fallen angels as beings froms superior dimensions and answers some of the questions raised by those who have taken the time to read The Bible. Using bible texts to support the theory it only makes you wonder at the magnificence of God! Definitely pierces the veil that clouds our churches and society today! I recommend getting his previous book Quantum Creation in order to enjoy this book even more :)

Nothing but speculations throughout the book. On top of that there are so many unrelated comparisons to ancient writings that have nothing to do with Cherubim. If Josh Peck interests you it would be much better to invest your money on "Quantum Creation." If you are interested in the Unseen realm of spirits I strongly suggest Dr. Michael S. Heiser called "The Unseen Realm." Dr. Heiser covers the subject in great depth.

PREPARING FOR EASTER

I highly recommend this book by an author who is credible, both as a godly man, pastor, and mentor. It is the perfect way to approach the Lenten season and to be enriched spiritually during this most blessed time of the year. The passages for each day are easy to read and even a very busy individual could absorb the contents in a short time. I looked forward to each day's reading and felt better prepared as I approached the majesty of the risen Christ.
