Great study resource.

This is my first time studying the old testament book by book. I loved this resource for the book of Genesis. It is not prescriptive thinking. It guides you to use "your favorite Bible". It took me a little longer than 40 days because I travel a lot and couldn't always get this in every day. The end of each chaper has Life Lessons and questions to prod your own thinking that helps you grow in your Christian walk. I jus wish this author had one for every book of the Old Testament. Highly recommend this and you will not be sorry.

Time to consider a subscription, I'd say!

Heaven's Rain Devotional is the very core of who we are. Because of this, Scripture tells us to reflect on God's teachings everyday. But how can we do this in the context of twenty-first century life? How can we understand God right now and how can we bring ourselves to an attitude of honesty before God about the need for our souls to be transformed and renewed?

You'll find some answers in this great new book from Emilou. I valued the honesty of Emilou in sharing examples from her life as well as the inclusion of many short testimonies from various people. It was perhaps this most of all which will make the book attractive to a younger generation: the authors' willingness to filter Scriptural truth and Christian wisdom through the nitty-gritty of real-life experience gives their message a persuasive quality.

One suggestion, however: that lots of topics that were discuss in the book could well be a good discussion piece on blogs. This could be an ideal opportunity for a blog to expand on the reflections, to give writers and readers alike an opportunity to explore the ideas raised further.

Definitely this book is on my reading list for Christian Books - highly recommended ! This book delivers a strong and helpful Christian message.

This is personal

While in the process of resetting my life to a personal spiritual revival, I downloaded "Heaven's Rain Devotional: 52 Weeks Of Soaking In The Peace of God" by Emilou Ilagan. The first in the Kavod Devotional Series, this book is uncomplicated, easy to read, and helps the reader look back from where God has taken them, pause and ponder their present position as well as anticipate the great future that God has planned for them.

Week 2 (Marriage in the Eyes of a Bachelorette) is one of my favorites. In her writing, Emilou states, "Since I became a Christian, I have been praying daily for my future husband that whoever he is, wherever he is, whatever he is doing, that the Almighty God will protect him, preserve him, deliver him from temptations and lead him to me..." I love that prayer! If every Christian bachelorette prayed that kind of prayer, I think that the world would have less relationship heartaches. Talk about saving your marriage before it starts! Although a single Christian lady might pray thus, the author points out that "If you want to find the ideal husband, first be an ideal wife." Amen to that!

Emilou touches on subjects that affect both Christians and non-Christians alike. Issues such as fatigue, sexual temptations, death, tragedy etc and how to overcome them. She challenges the reader to rise up from being just a "Sunday-going believer or Bible-reading Christian" to become one of those imparted by the Holy Spirit in order that "when we speak, God's words will convict hearts and transform lives..."

I love the simplicity of this book. For the newbie Christian, Heaven's Rain Devotional will help you understand the walk of faith better; for the veteran Christian, it will remind you of the faith fundamentals and assist you move out from your plateau to the mountain.

Excellent call for truth and holistic response to the orphan crisis

In Defense of the Fatherless takes the issue of the global orphan crisis and examines the root issues behind it, the corruption involved, what the Bible says and what God’s heart is for orphans, and how Christians are called to respond. I found the book to be thought-provoking, engaging, and challenging in a good way.

Brinton and Bennett argue that poverty and injustice are the primary issues behind the global orphan crisis. They look at how these systemic issues cause children to be orphaned, and what are some effective ways for addressing them. They heavily reference some recent significant books on these subjects like "When Helping Hurts" and "Half the Sky". I appreciate their connection with other good works like those and effective research, because it adds to good principles that have already been identified rather than trying to start from scratch.

As most people would agree, the best place for a child is in a family – but when you consider the millions of orphans in developing countries, there are many facets to that issue and how to respond. This book challenges us to get to the root of the issue – to find ways to support vulnerable families to prevent kids from being orphans. As a next step, how can we empower and support local churches in poor contexts to care for orphans in their own communities? But, these are perhaps more complicated challenges and ones that tend to stay out of the limelight. I appreciate that this book does not just provide the easy answers, but seeks to push for the best long-term solutions.

The writing of this book was precipitated by painful personal experiences of both authors with corruption in the international adoption process. They seek to expose the corruption and help the reader to understand the roots of it and what perpetuates it as well as seeking answers for how it can be addressed and mitigated. I appreciate that they recognize that corruption does exist, especially as related to international adoptions, and that it can ultimately generate long-term harmful effects for vulnerable families and the children involved. To turn a blind eye to it is to perpetuate the orphan crisis rather than to alleviate it.

In the book, Brinton and Bennet seek to lay out a solid Bible foundation of God’s heart for the orphan, the widow, and the oppressed. What impact or voice does the gospel of Jesus Christ have in this crisis? They emphasize the need for true discipleship, and for us as the church to take up the challenge to address the global orphan crisis. I appreciate the many specific examples and testimonies of people around the world who are making an impact through thoughtfully playing a part in some aspect of addressing poverty, injustice, and caring for orphans.

A Must Read for All - thank you!!!

I've been waiting for and dreaming of this book for years, and it did not disappoint! I've already read it twice, started an online discussion book club on it, and distributed it to 10 of my orphan care/mission leader friends. Just ordered another 10 copies. I love every part of this book. It presents the facts in a clear, balanced, nuanced, and Biblical way. Every pre adoptive and adoptive parent should read this (Christian or not) and every missions leader, missions donor, mission trip participant, etc should read it as well. This book takes the basic principles of the "When Helping Hurts" movement and applies them in detail to the areas of int'l adoption, International orphan care, and short term missions.

Now we need whole books on each of those topics. This book does an excellent job of summarizing the research and broadening the conversation. I'm already hungry for more!

I'm excited that one of the authors Sara Britton will be speaking at the 2015 Together for Adoption conference. I was disappointed to see Russell Moore's Adopted for Life still being sold at CAFO Summit 2015. It's time to commit to changing the narrative by taking certain misguided books off the shelves and replacing them with books like these.

Orphan Justice is just a teaser compared to the depth and breadth of this book.

Great book about the reality of the "orphan" and how to help them

Really well researched book on adoption and orphan care. While we have not adopted, we have done orphan care extensively and it is much more complex than it seems on the surface. The two authors have dealt with this subject with a great deal of sensitivity mixed with reality.

About the Author
During more than forty years of ministry, Ralph Nault has helped thousands become more spiritually alive. Responding in faith to the leading of the Holy Spirit, he and his wife, Pauline, have seen many people experience physical healing, emotional restoration, and freedom from bondage. Born in Northern Vermont, Nault was raised Roman Catholic, served as a Marine in the Korean War, married Pauline, drove a tractor-trailer truck, and became an electrical contractor. In Chapter 3 we will consider how important it is for Christians to learn how to be led by the Holy Spirit before developing their gifts and ministries.

In Chapter 4 of this book we shall consider some practical examples about how to operate the gifts of the Holy Spirit; without having to wait years to do so.

Chapter 5 of this book also provides us with a very practical application on how to operate the gift of prophecy, particularly if we want to learn how to prophecy into people's lives on a day-to-day basis.

In Chapter 6 we will evaluate the five-fold ministries, as highlighted in Ephesians Chapter 4. Here we shall also distinguish between ministries and works of service that God intends us to operate in the body of Christ.

In Chapter 7 we shall discuss the importance of the fruit of the Holy Spirit in the lives of Christians, and specifically in the lives of those who believe God wants them to develop their gifts and ministries within the Kingdom of God.

In Chapter 8 of this book we shall consider the importance of the anointing of the Holy Spirit on our lives. Particularly we shall discuss how God sends his anointing on a person to prepare them for ministry, even when they may not be aware what God has specifically called them to do in the future.

In the penultimate chapter of this book we will analyze the difference between dreams, visions and revelations; which God wants us to experience in our lives from time-to-time. A distinction between visions and pictures will also be considered.

In the final chapter of this book we shall talk about the importance of life in the Spirit; based on Ezekiel Chapter 47. We shall also consider the importance of bearing fruit as part of life in the Spirit for everyday Christians.

Holy Spirit be with you

Some traditional religions fail to teach about the Holy Spirit and its importance to our salvation. Why is one of the most important pieces being left out in out times. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are very much alive today. Any Christian that wants to learn more about the Holy Spirit this is a great book to use with the Bible to understand more.

This will tell you what to look for to get started as a locksmith, provided that you do not live in a state wherein locksmiths are required to register and obtain a license from their state. I gave it three stars rather than two because it has some excellent advice on the handling of customers, but there is next to nothing on the technical details of locksmithing in it. Also, be advise, this nearly free book goes out of the way to encourage you to buy the author's other books and products. My advice, before you do anything about starting up a locksmith shop, is to find out what your state requires in the way of licensing and bookkeeping. Just as with any other business, locksmithing is not to be taken lightly.
