Keep the Faith

Desiree Lee builds on the lesson learned from her first book Inmate 1142980 about her life behind bars in her news collection of stories from others in Pass the Mustard Seed ‘It’s Your Faith that Moves Mountains, Not your Hands’.
This book is made up by individual stories and how these folks have overcome challenges in their lives. What this book does is serve as an example of how often we feel alone in this journey but discover that others are in the same situation.
The major lesson of this book is that life can be a daily struggle but with faith and hope, no obstacle can keep you down.

I love her books

I love her books! The only complaint is about the table of contents. The Women of Tenancity contains more than one book. At first, since my Kindle sometimes skips around and I had a terrible time getting back to what I was reading. It would really help if, at least, each book is listed in the table of contents. So, if my kindle skipped, at least I could go back to whatever book I'm reading instead of wasting so much time searching for the spot where I was.

Also, I think this part would be an Amazon thing. I bookmarked many places and couldn't find them again in many books. I finally called support and found that the bookmarks were under NOTES. Who would have thought that notes was where it would be. The place where bookmarks are located should be more obvious.

I have little, if any, complaints about the writing of this book and the others I purchased. Keep on writing these wonderful "sweet" books.

Shanna develops great characters, throws in some humor, and of course they life happily ever after! A good, clean read. My favorite of the three novels in this collections was Heart of Clay.

ROMANTIC AND AMAZING--LOVE SHANNA'S BOOKS

Shanna Hatfield's books are absolutely amazing. They make you laugh and make you cry. The Men treat their women like princesses--like every woman wants to be treated--loved and cherished, and wanted. The women treat their men like the prince charming they have always dreamed of falling in love with--loved and cherished and needed. I love how she brings out the personalities of the kids and shows the love and importance of family. In each book there is some sort of conflict that the characters have to overcome. It adds mystery and excitement to the stories and shows what happens when there is conflict in our lives, by showing the strength a person gains and how a person becomes better through the trials they have to face in life. It also shows how a marriage is strengthened through the trials that the couple must face together. I know that my relationship with my children and husband have been helped by me reading these books. Even though Shanna has written many books, both contemporary and historical, they are each different except for one thing, they each show the characters having a deep Love for one another--"heart, body, and soul", and they keep the romance going even years into their marriages. I absolutely love all of Shanna's books and have read them multiple times, and can't wait til the next one is available to read.

Brief and One-sided but Important in Confronting Prejudice

The book rightly addresses the Church's failure to rightfully love the LGBT community. It fails, though, to critically or conclusively provide a compelling argument based on scripture for affirming same-sex unions. It calls into question certain interpretations of select scriptural passages but does not truly address or even frame credible counter arguments or their proponents. I found some of his arguments hinted at important points but, they again were unfortunately underdeveloped. One example has to do with understanding Paul's writings in 1 Corinthians 6 and 1 Timothy 1 that have been traditionally interpreted to prohibit many sins including homosexuality. He questions the meaning of the term that Paul coined (he coined many other terms throughout the NT) and suggests Paul had something else in mind than homosexuality as we now see it. Here he treats as dubious the thought that Paul is using a term clearly connected to the Leviticus passage in the Septuagint (Greek version of the OT) prohibiting homosexuality. Yet, of course, Paul clearly frequently quotes from the Septuagint throughout his writings. While dismissing this highly plausible argument, he never provides a convincing reason for doing so.

Many Christians can be challenged by this book to repent on if they have harbored prejudice or not compassionately treated certain people because of their LGBT identification. I only recommend this book as a starting point for understanding some arguments surrounding this issue. Do not take the arguments in it at face value. The theological arguments are underdeveloped for a theologian claiming (or claimed by his publishers) to be the top Christian ethicist and the references to findings in the helping fields are far too one sided. As an example, counseling has not provided an open-shut case on the etiology of homosexuality and the effectiveness of reorientation therapies, though, just as he has been blacklisted from Evangelical churches for his newfound position, scholars challenging the majority opinion have also been blacklisted from scholarly journals for their research, limiting this perspective in the scientific narrative.

This book is an important conversation starter, but the substance for the argument on either side must be discovered elsewhere.

God works in strange ways, or serendipity: When I had finished my Shakespeare Sonnet Word Search book, in 2013, a friend of mine asked me if I could publish my books as large print books for her Mom? I thought it was a good idea, and I found out I could ... so I did. One month later, I gave her a copy and thanked her. She said her Mom would be so happy, and she thanked me. Well a week or two went by when she approached me and asked me for a "Big Favor" her Mom. Her Mom was wondering if I could do a word search book based on the Bible? Well, I thought about it and I finally figured out how and what seemed an easy task took far longer than seven days, more like seven months to get the first book out. My goal is to publish one book a month in each series of the Old and New Testaments and Large Print versions too. Even though this is a lot of work for me, somehow with the grace of God, I seem to be doing it, and hope to finish them, one at a time.

When I set up my web site joewocoski.com I wanted to add a meaningful saying at the top of the web page to express how I felt about my books. I couldn't think of one, so I picked up the copy of the Bible next to me, which I use while I work on my books, and closed my eyes and quickly thumbed the pages, then pointed at a verse on a page, and opened my eyes and read it. I smiled because it was the perfect saying on the first try. 

This instantly became my favorite Bible saying and sums up what I am doing with my books "Proverbs 1:2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding".

I have been collecting these books because they are so easy to read and fun as well. But was disappointed when this one came and is not large print. I like to give copies to my senior Bible study group, but I'm afraid they would have trouble with this size of print. Still a good book though.
